Ebony is a sophomore at Oakland Tech High and the coach’s “problem child.” She has an easy smile and the ability to talk to anyone, anywhere, anytime. Physically she could be a top athlete. But during the training runs, she dissolves into tears, shouts at volunteers, and winds up walking more than running. Ebony doesn’t believe she can actually run a marathon and signs up for SRO mainly because she wants a ticket to Los Angeles. Her training extends her emotional rides to everyone involved and ends up pitting the executive director and the coach against each other.
